Self Improvement Tactics: How To Use The Power Of Positive Thinking

“Two men look out thru the same bars: One sees the mud, and one sees the stars.”- Frederick Langbridge, A Cluster of Quiet Thoughts

If you have placed 2nd in a writing contest, will you jump for joy and push for more satisfying results the next time or will you be deterred and find an excuse not to join again?

In life, you are always stuffed with choices. You’ll decide to have a pessimist’s view and live a self-defeated life or you will decide to take the optimist’s route and take a challenging and satisfying life.

So why think positive? And why start thinking positive now?

Well, brightness has been linked to positive mood and good morale; to academic, athletic, army, occupational and political success; to popularity; to excellent health and even to long life and liberty from stress.

On the other hand, the rates of depression and pessimism have never been higher. It is affecting middle-aged adults the same way it hits younger people. The mean age of onset has gone from 30 to fifteen. It is no longer a middle-aged housewife’s disorder but also a teen-ager’s disorder ‘ too.

Here is how optimists are in action and researches that back up why it actually pays to be an optimist:

Optimists expect the best.

The definitive characteristic of pessimists is they have a tendency to believe bad events, which will last a long while and enfeeble everything they do, are their own fault.

The truth is optimists are faced up to with the same hard knocks of this world. What differs is how they explain their misfortune—it’s the opposite way. They have a tendency to believe defeat is just a brief problem, that its causes are restricted to this one case.

Optimists tend to focus on and plan for the ‘problem ‘ to hand. They use ‘positive reinterpretation. ‘ In other words, they most likely reinterpret a negative experience in a way that helps them learn and grow. Such folk are unfazed by bad situation, they perceive it is a challenge and try harder.

They will not say ‘things will never get better, ‘ ‘If I failed once, it will occur again ‘ and ‘If I experience misfortune in one part of my life, then it will happen in my whole life. ‘

Positive expectancies of optimists also envision better reactions during transitions to new environments, sudden tragedies and not likely turn of events. If they fall, they will stand up. They see opportunities rather than obstacles.

People respond certainly to optimists

Optimists are proactive and less conditional on others for their contentment. They find no need to control or control other people. They generally draw people towards them. Their optimistic view of the planet can be infective and influence those they’re with.

Optimism appears a socially fascinating characteristic in all communities. Those that share brightness are sometimes accepted while those that spread gloom, panic and hysteria are treated unfavorably.

In life, these folks often win elections ; get voted most good-natured and sought for advice.

When things get tough, optimists get harder

Optimists typically maintain higher degrees of subjective contentment in periods of stress than do people who are less optimistic. By contrast, pessimists are probably going to react to stressful events by denying that they exist or by avoiding dealing with issues. Pessimists are much more likely to give up trying when problems arise .

They persevere. They just don’t give up easily, they’re also famous for their patience. Inching their way a step closer to that goal or elusive dream.

Optimists are healthier and live for longer

Medical research has justified that simple pleasures and a positive outlook could cause a measurable increase in the body’s ability to fight illness.

Optimists’ health is abnormally good. They age well, much freer than most of the people from the common physical difficulties of middle age. And they get to outlive those susceptible to self-destructive thoughts.

So why not be an optimist today? And think positively towards a satisfied life.

Why not look forward to pre-eminence in all your endeavors? Why not be resilient? Like everyone else you are sure to hit lows often but don’t just stay there. Carry yourself out of the mud and improve your odds of getting back on the right track. And why not inspire others to get rid of their dark-colored glasses and see life in the brighter side?

Self Help – Daily Meditation For Self Improvement

Self Help – Daily Meditation for Improving Your Confidence
By Jessica T.

Emotional Self-Help

If you take a minute and reflect over the thoughts that dominate your mind in your every day life, you may discover that a lot of the thoughts are something like, no I can’t do that or I am not good enough for that, or maybe you unconsciously categorise all the things that you can’t and aren’t.
I am sure that you do not need me to tell you that this is unhealthy and can become very damaging over time. You have probably heard many people say, that these kind of thoughts are destructive and will not be beneficial for anyone. But how to change this state of mind?

Well, you will have to change your attitude towards life and yourself. To do that I suggest that you try this following technique and see if it helps you.

Replacing Your Thoughts

For this exercise I want you to think about the thoughts that normally pops in to your mind when ever there’s a situation and something you believe you can’t do.
What do you think?

Do you think that you aren’t good enough?
Do you think that your skills are inadequate?
Do you usually describe yourself in negative terms like, I am not that kind of person and I do not have that talent?

Well, take those negative words and replace them positive words such as, I am good enough, I am talented, etc.
This is of course not an immediate transformation and it requires a complete change in the way you are thinking. This will take some time and effort, but aren’t you worth it?

The Daily Plan for Self Improvement

Make it a habit to think positive thoughts about yourself. And be more aware of the way you are thinking

So take notice in your thoughts. Don’t just allow the negative thoughts to control your mind. Take control of them and replace them. So when a negative thought appears, simply acknowledge it, and let it go. Then turn your mind towards a positive though and something that makes you feel confident. It may be a memory of something in the past or some achievements in your life. Something you are proud of. Make that feeling the dominant feeling, and make it a habit to switch your mind towards those thoughts, whenever a negative one appears.

Meditation
Meditation is also a great self-help technique. Meditation can have a healing effect on both your mentality and your physical body. You will feel more stabilized and balanced when working with meditation as a self-improvement technique. One great healing meditation that I recommend is chakra healing or chakra meditation.

In chakra healing you learn to heal your chakras. This is important for self-help, as each and every energetic chakra field in your body is the location for your personal qualities and characters.
If you for instance feel that you will-power is basically gone and you often let other people take control, you solar plexus may be blocked or closed. If your chakras are blocked, they will not be healthy and in balanced and can therefore cause emotional and physical blockages. So try chakra healing and see if it helps you feel more balanced and at peace.

Practical Self Improvement Ideas: Taking A Breather

Once our day gets going it’s very easy to be overwhelmed by the routine, the urgent (not necessarily the important), the latest minor crisis or, most common of all, negative thought. Even if you have started your day properly, it is all too easy to become submerged and go back to our default state of unfocused mindlessness.

So, first things first, what does starting your day properly mean? Well, we make certain that we don’t leave the house physically unprepared for the day ahead. We shower and dress ourselves – shaving or applying the odd dab of make-up as appropriate! However, we unwittingly leave the house every morning mentally unprepared for what lies in store. Starting the day properly means making sure that, before leaving home, you’ve taken the appropriate action to clear the mind and focus your energy. I suggest five to ten minutes mental preparation for the day ahead. Find somewhere quiet to sit and focus on what your senses are telling you – one sense at a time. This will enable you focus on what is really happening as distinct from the subconscious programs that otherwise run your life – those programs being your default mental settings.

OK, let’s say that you’ve got your day off to the perfect start, you’re switched on, focused, mentally wide awake and primed for action. Little things like a delayed train, like getting stuck in traffic, like someone asking you to do something unexpectedly – so many little things can disturb us. To say nothing of the big things! It can be so easy to wander mindlessly into mental oblivion as the day unfolds. What we’ve got to do is make sure that, during our day, we pause to catch our breath – literally.

Age-old wisdom places great store on the opportunity that our breathing offers us to clear the mind of useless noise and distraction and, consequently, focus the energy. So, here’s an easy, quick and entirely practical tip – because, after all, you have to breathe anyway! Take a few moments – moments is all that’s required – during the day to turn your attention to the reality of your body as you breathe in and out. Pay attention to what it feels like to breathe, how your body reacts with each breath in and out, how the air passes through the right, left or both nostrils. Give thanks for the reality that you are alive and breathing. Focus on nothing else for these few moments. If the cares or useless thoughts of the moment start invading your mind, take three deeper breaths to refocus your attention. With each breath, understand that whatever might be driving you crazy right now will be completely forgotten in months, weeks, days or even hours. Appreciate that, with an alert, focused and ready mind, anything is possible.
